here come all the rose’s

So it goes… the months pass & so do the seasons. Living here the past 6 months already I see a change in everything I do. I am enjoying the lovely weather here in the City of Roses and making the most of my time, hiking with my loves, drinking coffee & a ton of art. I do not miss Texas weather one bit! Bring on all the Spring & Summer growth… So expect to see all my art filled with flowers, my wreaths change with the seasons, and my blackwork skip a beat.

a bit of art & then…

Portland is welcoming Autumn & I am psyched. I do not miss much about Texas at all, in-fact outside of some of the amazing folks I have tattooed over the years, friends, & the donkey (Trixie & the horses from the field behind our old home), I admit to missing ~ not much. I am loving the long days here, walking/exploring with my fur baby & just taking an easy~ I haven’t been here long, but I am transitioning just fine….art, roses, walking, & lunch, can’t beat it….

These lovely, simply beautiful Roses  ~are from the Test Rose Garden…Another amazing gem in the city is the Peninsula Rose Park Garden only a few long blocks from my home.

& then my days are filled with things around our new home, thanks to my love, Joe I am able to take some time to myself & really fall in love with Portland.

a couple more tattoos that I can’t leave out…

finished these three cool pieces right before moving as well…This half sleeve belongs to my buddy, Paul. I’ve had the fuckin’ best people come thru my life thru tattooing, this piece & Paul & his wife, Pam are no exception. By far one one my favorites.

Cool warrior pinup on my buddy, Tyler. Really love this one.

Part of Lauren’s botanical piece. Some fresh, some healed. Really dig this lovely piece, had a blast doing it, look forward to doing more like this in the future. Amy’s amazing leg pieces, two large ‘forget me not’ bushes & some lovely lily’s on the other, so beautiful, & on one of my dear friends. The lil’ birdie with all the Peonies belongs to Theresa, the antique Rose belongs to her as well…

This bitch’n piece belongs to my buddy, Chris. Meet & finished his arm just a couple months before I moved, he had the Koi fish, waves, & small cherry blossom flowers. I added all the rest & redid the older tattoos for him to fit what we were doing. I can’t say enough about how cool this piece was doing & hanging out with Chris, really love this piece. (a small cover-up involved)

A few years ago Christie came into my shop, she had heard about me thru a friend. She’s a nurse & had always wanted a pinup of sorts to represent her journey. I was psyched to draw her something, this is what we came up with & right before moving I was able to finish it for her. This piece just tells a story. That’s one of my best enjoyments about tattooing. The Stories being told on the Skin.

and so it goes….

portland-oregon-city-of-rosesmany years have been spent here in Texas. I have had so many amazing folks come in & out of my life over the years. One of the bonuses about being a tattooer is that you all have entered my life & that wouldn’t had any other way. I have tattooed in this area a really long time & honestly I am truly ready for a change. I have never fallen in love with Round Rock & have pushed myself beyond what it can offer me as an artist, but with that being said, I thank my many loyal friends who have allowed me to tattoo them with my art, so many thanks & much love to you all.

So you’re wandering what is Sara Mae going to do. Portland, Oregon is calling my name. My husband, Joe has worked up there for many years with his company, but he & I have been thinking about moving for awhile now, after visiting the City Of Roses my mind was made up quick that I could really fall in love with this lovely City, so we are going to give it a go.

My shop will be closing mid May… it’s soon, but much needed. I have been dreaming of a much greener life for awhile now for myself & fur baby, Bukowski. I have missed walking, hiking, nature, florals outside of Texas for years so I am very happy.

Again, thanks my texas friends, I will keep Southern Hospitality’s website for awhile, but keeping updated thru my blog & personal site is best. I’m looking forward to my new life in Oregon with my family….

better late than never, our trip to Asheville North Carolina….

So at times my husband has the worst time trying to convenience me to go places. When I was younger I hard a time keeping still… through-out my early teens even into my late 20’s I always seeked out moving….but now with my fur baby & shop I have stayed still for so long, & in the coming months, year I plan on changing that more & more….for our 10th anniversary we flew to Asheville, I have never been & I had to leave my fur baby, Bukowski for 8 days….really fuckin’ difficult, but we had a great time & here are a few places you should defiantly visit…

Izzzy’s Coffee Den…yes! Do not, I repeat Do not let the strange birds that hangout at the Den scare you away, this place is hands down the best coffee I had there….also get a bagel with their jalapeno cream cheese, so delish…plus some of the best service hands down….Over Easy breakfast cafe is wow…you will not be disappointed, the food, the service, the mimosa’s made with apple ice cubes really!! also worth the wait this place is super small….The Plant –this is a plant based inspired restaurant with amazing ideas….the cheese plate is the best…..All Souls Pizzeria, really amazing…the Clingman Cafe for coffee as you wander around the amazing miles of warehouses & storefronts that house the artists in the artists district…this area of Asheville is really a progressive area, still industrial, but building up with many business’s trying their hands, I will be very interested in seeing this part of the city in the next 5 years.

Biltmore Estate….the grounds & conservatory are truly fuckin’ amazing so many flowers & richness to the estate….they were so far ahead of the game back then, wishes came truly easy for that family…

So would I visit again yes, would I consider moving there maybe, there’s alot going on for artists there for sure…tattoo shops are slim & in really close proximity to each other. I have come to not consider it odd that so many artists are not supportive or humble to others, but that’s another story altogether & another time….

I didn’t draw the whole time I was away, but took pictures, enjoyed nature & celebrating 10 years with Joe, my Sailor who guides my ship….thanks for the years & for the rest in this sometimes bumpy journey…..
